UN World Population Day Quotes and Facts

by Jan Shoop
Today, July 11, is the UN World Population Day. The UN World Population Day was established in 1989 to, “focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues in the context of overall development plans and programs and the need to finds solutions for these issues.” http://www.un.org/en/events/populationday/

In researching the article I found an interesting fact and one, I didn’t know – by the end of this year there will be 7 billion people in the world. Think about that – 7 BILLION! And, every one of those 7 billion people is an individual with needs, desires, hopes and dreams. In fact, all of us have three major needs:
1.      The need to feel significant
2.      The need to feel lovable
3.      The need to feel relevant

I know many inspiring teachers and volunteers in many schools who make it their mission to help kids feel significant, relevant and lovable. So take a moment today and help celebrate the UN World Population Day by making someone feel significant, relevant or lovable.

“Loving a child doesn’t mean giving in to all his whims;
to love him is to bring out the best in him,
to teach him to love what is difficult.”
