We all know that today is Valentine’s Day. But – did you know:
- Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London, wrote the oldest valentine that is in existence.
- Approximately 1 billion Valentine cards are sent each year.
- Legend says that Roman Emperor Claudius II did not want men to marry, as they made better soldiers if they were single. However, Bishop Valentine continued to perform marriages anyway until he was beheaded on February 14, 270 A.D.
- Teachers receive the most Valentine cards, followed by children, mothers, wives and sweethearts.
