Golden Rule Week

by Jan Shoop

Did you know that April 1-7 is Golden Rule Week?

It’s seems fitting since Golden Rule Week is in the same month as Easter and Good Friday.

The Golden Rule from The Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 7:12:
“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”
King James Bible

1.       A rule of ethical conduct, usually phrased, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” or, as the Sermon on the Mount, “Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so unto them.” Matthew 7:12; Luke 6:31.
2.       Any philosophy, guiding principle, or ideal of behavior, as in a discipline, pursuit, or business.

Top 3 Golden Rule Quotes
1.       “Even as wisdom often comes from the mouths of babes, so does it often come from the mouths of old people. The Golden Rule is to test everything in the light of reason and experience, no matter from where it comes.” Mohandas Gandhi

2.       “Practicing the Golden Rule is not a sacrifice; it is an investment.” Unknown

3.       “We have committed the Golden Rule to memory; let us now commit it to life.” Edwin Markham

And…one of my favorite authors, John Maxwell, sums up the Golden Rule perfectly:
“There’s no such thing as business ethics – there’s only ethics. People try to use one set of ethics for their professional life, another for their spiritual life, and still another at home with their family. That gets them into trouble. Ethics is ethics. If you desire to be ethical, you live it by one standard across the board.”
“There’s No Such Thing as ‘Business’ Ethics: There’s Only One Rule for Making Decisions"

Join us this week, and throughout the month, in exemplifying the Golden Rule as we spend time with our families, business associates and friends.
