St. Barnabas Church and StarShine

by Lois Jamieson
The Episcopal Parish of St. Barnabas On The Desert has supported StarShine in many ways. Four years ago the church accepted StarShine as one of their outreach ministries. For those four years they have given a sizable annual monetary gift.
They have also provided a wonderful source of volunteers for over six years. These volunteers tutor and/or mentor the students on a once or twice a week basis. They work in the library, provide after school activities and help with handy man projects.
There are some parishioners who cannot actively work at the school, but generously donate supplies. In one case, an artist brought her eight member artist group to the school for a tour. Out of that visit, the art group donated art supplies at Christmas time every year. One of the artists volunteered to work with me in the High School girl’s Fashion/Etiquette Club.  She has been with us for three years.
Another gift of generosity came from a lady who was celebrating her 70th birthday and asked that all her gifts be new clothes for the neediest students at StarShine.  Many others have donated books and computers. These are just a few of the many gifts given by St. Barnabas and the caring parishioners.
Thank you all.
