When Life Changes Direction

What Do I Do Now?

Lois Jamieson
School has started and at this time of the year, I am usually gearing up for yet another year of volunteering at a special school for at-risk kids.

But not this year…

I will not be continuing with the most satisfying 7 years of volunteer service I have ever experienced. I am left with good memories and great relationships with extraordinary children and teen-agers. I thank Jan, for believing in me and leading me to this outstanding experience.
I will miss the students and wonderful teachers.

At the age of 83, I don’t have the vitality I once had, but I am not ready to hang it all up yet.
So the question is, “What Do I Do Now?”

I keep busy, with two blogs and a book in the works. Most of my adult life has been spent in volunteer service, and I find it hard to quit now. I am finding, in my senior years, that many of my friends are in need of phone calls, caring visits and small gifts of cheer. I think perhaps I can fill that challenge, moving from the younger generation to the older generation.

Who really knows what the future will hold for any of us. I will let you know, when I figure it out.
